Mrs. Weisz's third grade class is starting a new blog page. We will start out by using it as a kind of newsletter with information about our class and upcoming events.
What's in our blog?
The blog contains links to the blog sites of each student in the class. Those blogs are only accessible through the links on the third grade blog site. You can either click on the student's name on the right side bar of the blog, or their may be links embedded in specific posts sometimes that will take you there. We hope to post things like pictures of artwork, writings, podcasts or voice recordings of student work, and any other things we might think of. The students will also get to embellish their own blogs a little as we go along by adding links, listing favorite books, posting funny or interesting pictures they find, etc.
Other helpful things you will find in the right hand column are links to good learning sites for the students to use at home, our weekly spelling lists, and hopefully in the future lists of other resources that parents may find helpful.
The best part about this blog is the comments - parents, friends and family members anywhere can leave comments for the students about their posts. This is great feed back for the students and they know their work has the potential to reach a bigger audience than simply having it posted on the class bulletin board. It's also fun for those friends and family members far away to have a little peek into what their special Tok School third grader is doing!
Regarding security, only first names of the students will be used, and no pictures of students will be posted unless I have a written o.k. from a parent. The kids can only put posts to their blogs while under my supervision, as I am the only one with access to our blog editor. No one else may get into them and post anything. Also, as the account holder for this blog, I am the moderator of all comments posted. Any time a comment is posted on the main class blog, or any of the student blogs, I am notified immediately by email, and must approve the comment before it can be posted. In order to post on the class or student blogs, the commentor must type in a valid registered email that I will see, and also must type in a word identification code (this prevents spam).
I hope you like our blog and find it a useful and fun thing to share - it's a great way to give students a pat on the back about the work they are doing in class every day! While you are looking around, feel free to leave an encouraging comment on any of the student blogs you wish.
